Local Heritage Register

The Queensland Heritage Act requires Council to have and maintain a Local Heritage Register (PDF 681.9KB).  The Register is a list of places within the Southern Downs that are considered to be of cultural heritage significance.  The Register includes details of the location of each place and provides a statement describing the cultural heritage significance of the place.

If you would like more information about the Local Heritage Register, the implications of owning a building on the register, and what can and can’t be done to the building, please view the Local Heritage Register information.

Some places on the Local Heritage Register are also on the Queensland Heritage Register.  Any development involving a place on the Queensland Heritage Register requires either a development permit or an exemption certificate from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP).

Buildings included on the Queensland Heritage Register or Commonwealth Heritage registers must meet higher levels of control than those on the local heritage register.
