Warwick Saleyards Sun Shelter
Council is seeking investment from the state and federal governments to install a hard sun shelter at the Warwick Saleyards facility – one of the largest selling centres in regional Queensland.
As a Saleyards operator, Council has a legal duty of care to meet animals’ needs in an appropriate way and to minimise risk of harm from extreme weather conditions, such as heat or cold stress. There is a growing body of research which supports the benefits of providing shade for improving animal welfare and productivity. In addition to improving animal welfare outcomes, a sun shelter would enable all-weather operations, reduce environmental degradation and improve worker outcomes and buyer experience.
Investment in the hard roof will further support and grow the Southern Downs’ keystone industry of agriculture and ensure the long-term future for traditional primary industries that have been a key pillar in our State’s enduring economic prosperity.
