Don’t guess your water usage – check it online. Households across the Southern Downs are being encouraged to take control of their water use and household bills by signing up to the MySDRCWater online portal, a digital tool designed to help residents monitor consumption, detect leaks early and make smarter water use decisions.
The online portal works alongside the region’s recently installed smart water meters to give customers real time visibility of how and when water is being used at their property.
Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton said the portal turns water data into practical, money saving insights for families and businesses.
“Smart meters are doing the hard work in the background, but the MySDRCWater portal is where residents really see the benefits,” Mayor Hamilton said.
“Instead of guessing why a bill might be higher than expected, customers can log in and see their water use broken down by the hour.
“That means leaks can be detected earlier, sometimes before there’s any visible sign, helping households avoid wasted water and unnecessary costs.”
Residents who register for MySDRCWater can:
• view hourly water consumption data
• track usage patterns over time
• receive alerts for unusual water use or potential leaks
• better understand everyday water habits
• take simple steps to reduce water use and bills
Portfolio Councillor for Productive Communities Cr Carla Pidgeon said the portal is particularly important in a drought prone region like the Southern Downs.
“Every litre saved strengthens our region’s water security, and giving households the tools to monitor and manage their own water use is a smart, practical way to support long term sustainability while also helping residents save money.”
More than 12,000 smart meters have been installed across Warwick, Stanthorpe and surrounding areas as part of ongoing works to modernise the region’s water network.
Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton said Council continues to advocate to the Queensland Government, with federal support also being sought, to secure long term water security for the region.
“Council will continue to advocate strongly for water security, and long-term water security investment, and we look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the Queensland Government to progress practical, long term water solutions that protect residents, support agriculture and strengthen the Southern Downs’ economic future.”
Residents with a smart water meter can register for the MySDRCWater portal online and start monitoring their water use straight away.
