Southern Downs Regional Council has launched its 2026–2031 Corporate Plan, shaped directly by the voices, priorities and aspirations of the local community.
Developed through extensive engagement in late 2025 and early 2026, including a region-wide survey and community pop-ups, the plan reflects what matters most to the Southern Downs community, from protecting the region’s unique lifestyle to planning for sustainable growth and future opportunities.
Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton said the plan is grounded in a strong and united vision for the region’s future.
“This 5-year plan is shaped by the community and represents a collective vision of thriving places, open spaces and happy faces that makes the Southern Downs feel like home,” Mayor Hamilton said.
“It speaks to the identities of our towns and villages, our beautiful region and our commitment to growing in a strategic and sustainable way.
Residents gave the Southern Downs a liveability score of 78 per cent, with high appreciation for raising families locally, the natural environment and opportunities to connect.
Community feedback highlighted key areas for continued focus, including strong local services, sustainable growth, improved liveability, expanded economic opportunities and long-term water security.
“This plan provides a clear roadmap for how we will deliver for our community and remain accountable to the people we serve,” Mayor Hamilton said.
“I would like to thank every resident who contributed through surveys, conversations, submissions and community pop-ups. Your insights have helped shape this plan and ensured it reflects the values, priorities and ambitions of our region.”
The plan is driven by five key commitments that lay the framework for delivering measurable outcomes:
• Relationships
• Reliable Everyday Infrastructure and Services
• Liveable Communities
• Responsible Management
• Strong Local Economy
