Southern Downs Pounds are helping change the story for lost and abandoned animals, with dogs like Ted finding a new leash on life through dedicated local care and strong rescue partnerships.
Blue cattle dog Ted was found wandering near Storm King Dam before safely being taken to the Warwick Pound. Although he was microchipped, his details were linked to a breeder, leaving his owner unknown. When no one came forward to claim him, Ted began his journey toward a second chance.
With the support of Council’s dedicated Local Laws team and rescue organisation Southern Downs Ark, Ted was cared for and given the opportunity to be rehomed—and it didn’t take long for him to find his forever home.
Ted’s new owner Bronte said that today he is living his best life on the Sunshine Coast, enjoying days shared between the beach and open acreage with his new family.
“He’s my new best buddy, and he has brought so much joy and love into our lives,” Bronte said.
“I am very grateful to Council and Southern Downs Ark. Their work reuniting lost dogs with owners, caring for wandering dogs and giving those who need it a second chance is what made it possible for Ted and I to meet in the first place.”
Council’s Local Laws spokesperson said the team works considerately behind the scenes to ensure lost and abandoned animals are treated with respect and, wherever possible, reunited with their owners or thoughtfully rehomed.
“This is why we do what we do,” a Local Laws spokesperson said. “Our team genuinely cares for every animal that comes into our care. It’s about giving every animal the best possible opportunities for their situation, and seeing them go on to bring joy to families and people like Ted has.
“Ted’s story also demonstrates the role responsible pet ownership plays in these outcomes. Making sure pets are microchipped and that contact details are kept up to date can make all the difference in reuniting animals with their owners quickly.
“Simple steps like secure fencing, identification, and regular care help keep pets safe and reduce the likelihood of them ending up lost or unclaimed. When that doesn’t happen, pounds and rescue groups are here as a safety net but the best outcome is always getting pets back home where they belong.”
