Major Sewer Upgrade to Replace Ageing Infrastructure and Support Future Growth
Ageing sewer infrastructure in Warwick will be replaced through a major $3 million upgrade that will increase network capacity and reduce the risk of sewage failures while laying the foundations for future growth and development across the region.

The project includes construction of a new 1.1-kilometre sewer pipeline, featuring a rising main from the McEvoy Street Sewer Pumping Station to Canning Street and a dedicated gravity main from Canning Street to Fitzroy Street, delivering on Southern Downs Regional Council's recently adopted 2026-2031 Corporate Plan to provide reliable infrastructure and support new housing developments.
Mayor Melissa Hamilton said the investment would deliver long-term benefits by renewing critical infrastructure while preparing the region for future demand.
“As we plan for the Southern Downs' future, we’re investing in the infrastructure needed to support our growing communities and provide the reliable services that residents and businesses expect,” Mayor Hamilton said.
“This project delivers a dual benefit by increasing capacity within the sewer network to meet future demand while replacing ageing infrastructure that is reaching the end of its operational life.
Portfolio Councillor for Liveable Communities Deputy Mayor Sheryl Windle said the upgrade would deliver significant operational, environmental and community benefits.
“Replacing ageing assets reduces the risk of failures that could lead to sewage overflows, environmental impacts and costly emergency repairs,” Cr Windle said.
“These works will strengthen Warwick's wastewater network, protect public and environmental health, and deliver lasting benefits for our community.”
Works are currently underway and are expected to be completed in December 2026.
