Warwick is back on the map for sustainable transport and eco-friendly infrastructure, with two new electric vehicle (EV) chargers now operating at the Acacia Avenue EV charger site.

Located within easy walking distance of Rose City Shoppingworld, Warwick’s CBD and several local schools, the recommissioned charging site offers convenience for both residents and visitors.

The site includes a 60-kW fast DC charger and a 22-kW AC charge, each fitted with dual plugs to allow up to four vehicles to charge simultaneously, paying only 55 cents per kWh for DC and 45 cents per kilowatt hour for AC.

Drivers have two convenient payment options, via the on-site PayWave kiosk or Plug & Charge access through the I-Charge app.

Southern Downs Regional Council Portfolio Councillor for Healthy Communities Cr Sarah Deane said the new chargers make it easier for local EV owners to power up closer to home or visitors to explore the region.

“Warwick’s new EV chargers show how the region is planning ahead for transport that’s both practical and sustainable,” Cr Deane said.

“In a national first, these chargers will soon feature I-Charge’s patent-pending AI-powered battery health check technology.

“This innovative system is like a health check-up for your car, and analyses real-time charging data to provide drivers with a snapshot of their EV’s battery condition to detect issues early.”

Southern Downs Regional Council Portfolio Councillor for Liveable Communities Cr Sheryl Windle said the new chargers would help position Warwick as a more attractive stop for eco-conscious travellers, boosting local tourism and encouraging longer visits.

“This project supports the growing number of EV drivers in the region and also encourages visitors to stop, recharge and explore Warwick, reinforcing the Southern Downs as a welcoming and forward-thinking destination for tourists,” Cr Windle said.

“With the ability to charge four vehicles at once, this site helps Warwick attract more EV drivers and encourage them to explore everything the town has to offer.”

Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton acknowledged the community’s support for the Acacia Avenue location following public consultation earlier this year.

“There was strong preference from the community for Acacia Avenue and Council worked with the relevant parties to deliver the site,” Mayor Hamilton said.
