With the introduction of mandatory electronic identification for sheep in January 2025, Southern Downs Regional Council and the Warwick Livestock Selling Agents Association have announced an earlier delivery curfew for sheep at the Warwick Saleyards.

From Wednesday 11 June 2025, all sheep for sale must be delivered by 10am to enable extra time for livestock to be processed in line with the new traceability requirements to ensure no delays the start time of the sale.

Southern Downs Councillor Carla Pidgeon said the decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with key stakeholders.

“Council understands the impact that changes like this can have on producers, agents and everyone involved in the livestock supply chain, so this is not a decision we’ve made without due consideration,” Councillor Pidgeon said.

“However, ensuring compliance with the new electronic identification legislation is essential, not just from a regulatory standpoint, but also for maintaining the integrity, traceability and reputation of our region’s livestock industry.

“By adjusting the delivery curfew to 10am, we’re providing the necessary time for livestock to be processed in accordance with the new requirements without disrupting the sale schedule itself.

“This change is about supporting a smooth and practical transition for all stakeholders.

“We greatly appreciate the cooperation and proactive engagement of the Warwick Livestock Selling Agents Association, as well as the broader agricultural community in helping to implement this change.

“It’s a necessary step to ensure our region remains at the forefront of best practice in livestock management.”

The sheep sale times will remain unchanged, ensuring minimal disruption to the broader operations of the livestock market.
