Recycling on the go in Stanthorpe just got easier, with Southern Downs Regional Council rolling out new public recycling bins as part of the recently completed High Street streetscape upgrade.

Designed to make doing the right thing simple, the easily identifiable bins feature clear signage to help locals and visitors separate recyclables from general waste, supporting Council’s ongoing push for sustainability and waste reduction.

The project was a proud collaboration between Council’s Parks & Gardens and Waste teams, and it has the full support of Council’s recycling mascot, Sort-It Sally who gave the bins a big thumbs up.

“It’s great to see public infrastructure that complements the town’s appeal while also promoting better recycling habits,” Sort-It Sally said.

“The bins are easy to use, clearly labelled and help everyone do their bit for the environment, even when they’re just grabbing a coffee or doing some shopping.

“Every bottle, can and piece of paper sorted right means less waste in landfill and more love for our planet.”

Southern Downs Councillor Sarah Deane praised the initiative as a practical step toward a cleaner, greener community.

“Public recycling bins may seem like a small change, but they have the power to make a big impact,” Councillor Deane said.

“We want to make it easy for everyone to recycle correctly and help keep more waste out of landfill.

“Stanthorpe is such a charming and unique destination, with beautiful parks, crafty shops and a strong community spirit, and these new bins are a fantastic addition to the streetscape.”

Residents are encouraged to visit the Recycle Mate page of Council’s website for answers to all of your recycling questions.
