One of Southern Downs most iconic scenic vistas has been elevated, with Carr’s Lookout undergoing a major restoration that enhances accessibility, safety and the region’s tourism charm.
Perched just outside Killarney and offering sweeping views of Mt Superbus, the lookout has long been a go-to stop for both locals and visitors, and it’s ready to impress again.
Council’s spokesperson for Liveable Communities Cr Sheryl Windle praised the team effort and local craftsmanship that revitalised the platform.
“Carr’s Lookout has always been more than just a pretty view—it’s a place where cameras come out and the majesty of our region takes centre stage,” Cr Windle said.
“In restoring the platform, Council crews were determined not to just patch things up but give this viewing structure the attention it deserves.
“This project is a Southern Downs story through and through with locally sourced materials featured prominently in the upgrades, including bespoke ironbark timber supplied by Killarney’s Carramar Timbers to ensure the project remained true to its roots.
“The entire delivery was shaped by collaboration and a sense of community pride.”
Upgrades included new timber decking, handrails and balustrading; a new directional compass; new storyboard signage; and fresh paint and staining.
Carr’s Lookout is located on Spring Creek Road, approximately 8km north east of Queen Mary Falls.
