The independently owned, free online My Community Directory is the go-to portal to find out who does what across the region and Southern Downs Regional Council is endorsing the established site by encouraging community organisations to register their listings on the directory.
Following a comprehensive review of current user preferences and the functionality of its own directory, Council will now refer organisations to the dedicated community directory in a practical move that supports greater accessibility to a range of services.
Southern Downs Councillor Marco Gliori said My Community Directory offered a centralised portal for community information and that strong existing engagement by the community and visitors was a promising indicator of its successful implementation as the endorsed point of truth.
“There is so much information floating around for people to access and we want to point the community in the best direction to find what they need, when they need it,” Councillor Gliori said.
“Council recently considered the functionality of the community directory on its own website and made a decision to remove this directory in favour of referring community organisations to the My Community Directory platform.
“My Community Directory is an independently owned digital library of comprehensive community information that is used by the public, community organisations and governments to find help, get involved and stay connected on a single, simple to use platform.”
Council’s community directory platform will soon be removed and a link will be provided to direct users to My Community Directory.
Council encourages community organisations, clubs, groups, service providers and agencies to register a new listing on My Community Directory. It is a user-based platform and organisations have ownership and control of their content.
Registration is free but is limited to those organisations and individuals which meet the site’s listing criteria.
Every organisation with a listing on the My Community Directory website automatically becomes a member of the platform with free listing access under their basic membership level. Community organisations can also upgrade the basic membership to access to additional features over and above what is included in a free listing for a small fee.
