Southern Downs Regional Council is pleased to announce that a new operator has been secured to oversee the Killarney Pool following the recent resignation of long-time operator Shirley Bloomfield.

Clinton Wood brings extensive experience to the role as a seasoned surf lifesaver and through his work at the Chandler Pool in Brisbane.

Council’s Director Customer & Organisational Services Leon Love said that Clinton’s level of expertise and background would greatly benefit the facility and pool users.

“We are pleased to welcome Clinton to the Killarney Pool with his extensive surf lifesaving pedigree,” Mr Love said.

“He has recently moved to Killarney and is keen to bring his enthusiasm for aquatics to the Killarney area.

“It is also an advantage that the recruitment process for fill the caretaker position had a quick turnaround because this means minimum disruption to the pool’s operation and its dedicated users.

“During this transition period, we have taken the opportunity to undertake a number of important upgrades to the facility including converting a store room into a People with Disability facility and renovating the shower/toilet cubicles in the male and female change rooms.

“These upgrades will greatly enhance the pool’s amenities and deliver a better facility to the community.

“We look forward to the pool opening to the public again towards the end October, subject to the availability of tradespeople, and we will continue to update the community through our Facebook page.

“Council would like to take this opportunity to thank Shirley for her years of service and dedication to the community and we wish her well in her retirement.”

Council thanks the Killarney community for its patience and cooperation while the pool remains temporarily closed during the upgrades.
