The region’s aspiring dancers will have the opportunity to experience the magic of ballet from Australia’s best ballet teachers when Queensland Ballet visits the Southern Downs and hosts community classes on Sunday 7 August 2022 at the Stanthorpe Civic Centre.

Following the resounding success of the 2019 tour to the region, Southern Downs Regional Council has once again collaborated with Queensland Ballet to share the experience of the physical, social and emotional benefits of dance.

Southern Downs Councillor Sheryl Windle looks forward to welcoming Queensland Ballet back to the region and is confident the local community will leap at the chance to experience the expertise of world-renown ballet teachers.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Queensland Ballet to the region with their inspirational workshops and I’m sure there will be some very excited participants eager to embrace this special opportunity,” Councillor Windle said.

“The classes will offer the region’s budding dancers the opportunity to learn tips and tricks of the craft from the country’s best ballet teachers.

“Queensland Ballet’s 2019 tour to the region was a huge success and I have no doubt that this most recent tour will also be enthusiastically attended.”

A Queensland Ballet spokesperson said Queensland Ballet has a strong commitment to creating accessible arts opportunities.

“Through specialised dance knowledge and experience working in diverse settings, our Education Teaching Artists bring their expertise to inform the creation and delivery of our community and education programs,” the spokesperson said.

“Queensland Ballet is offering inspiring classes for people of all ages, with a focus on improving poise, core strength, memory and mobility.

“We are excited to hit the road again to spread the magic of ballet with participants of all ages and abilities on the Southern Downs as part of our 2022 Community Regional Tour.

“In 2022 Queensland Ballet’s expert Teaching Artists will visit over 30 locations across regional Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory to deliver Community Classes and In-school Workshops.

“Young dancers aged 2–17 years, adults and senior participants, as well as school and dance teachers are invited to join Queensland Ballet for a range of inclusive workshops to explore the wonderful world of ballet.

“Children from ages 6 –17 years will delight in tailored ballet workshops delivered by Queensland Ballet’s highly skilled teaching artists.

“QB Petit Pointers is Queensland Ballet’s early years dance program, with lessons set within a framework of storytelling, exploration and artistic play.”
