Southern Downs Regional Council has today made the very difficult decision to cancel Warwick’s Great Australian Bites 2022 in light of the unfolding COVID-19 environment across Queensland.

Jointly funded by the Queensland Government in partnership with Council, 2022 Great Australian Bites was scheduled to take place in Warwick on Saturday 22 January from 4pm to 10pm, however with community safety a primary concern, the event has been cancelled. Council will investigate an alternative event to occur later in the year.

“Great Australian Bites has become a much anticipated event in our region, however we cannot ignore the potential risks the gathering poses to public safety amid surging COVID-19 cases,” Mayor Pennisi said.

“We will always put the safety of the community first and we look forward to scheduling another event for when it is safer to do so.”

Council will continue to work with all stakeholders including the Queensland Government to determine an optimal alternative event and details will be announced via Council’s Facebook page.

The Southern Downs is home to an iconic calendar of major events such as the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival, Celtic Festival, Jumpers and Jazz in July plus many number of eclectic and quirky events. For more information visit www.southerndownsandgranitebelt.com.au.
