Great communities are often defined by selfless individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty to achieve great things for their peers. To celebrate and recognise our region’s local legends, Southern Downs Regional Council is now calling for nominations for the 2023 Australia Day Awards.

Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi said the annual awards are an important community initiative and encouraged residents to nominate someone who deserves a real pat on the back.

“Southern Downs is home to an army of individuals who make a true difference at a grass roots level to our community and liveability through their tireless contributions,” Mayor Pennisi said.

“These individuals are the engine room of our communities and it is their countless hours of service in our sporting clubs, environmental groups and arts, culture and civic services that make Southern Downs a great place to live, work, play and stay.

“So many hard workers go unrecognised and now is the opportunity to recognise, show our appreciation and say thanks to the champions of our community by nominating them for the 2023 Australia Day Awards.”
