Following a break in the Warwick-Allora water pipeline line on Friday 13 May, water carting has today commenced to the Allora Reservoir to ensure the continued supply of potable water to the town’s residents.
Toowoomba Regional Council has partnered with Southern Downs Regional Council to provide two trucks for the operation to deliver Warwick water from Mt Marshall to the reservoir site.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Services Gary Murphy said that Council would continue to test and monitor the carted water quality to ensure it complies with the relevant standard.
“Given the Warwick-Allora water pipeline runs through Mount Marshall, the carted water is the exact same water supplied to the Allora community every day of every other week,” Mr Murphy said.
“All things being equal, we do not expect there will be any changes to the taste and colour of the water, however Council’s operators will continue to test and monitor the water quality regularly to ensure the water complies the relevant standard.
“We are very grateful for the assistance from our neighbours at Toowoomba Regional Council to ensure that the Allora community has adequate water from their residential taps and the partnership to cart water will continue until the mains are repaired.”
Following overnight rain at Allora, the trucks had some access challenges to the reservoir this morning and minor works were carried out to ensure safe access to the site.
Council is aware of some impacts on the shared property at the reservoir and will restore and repair any damage once carting ceases.
Local residents are asked to be mindful of water usage during the carting period.
“We appreciate the local community minimising water usage as crews work to fix the pipeline under difficult circumstances,” Mr Murphy said.
