Improving mental health, physical wellbeing and resilience through peer support will be the corner stones of Southern Downs Regional Council’s Youth Week 2022 activities and initiatives.

Council will partner with local youth service providers headspace Warwick, Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre (GBNC) and Stanthorpe Therapeutic Arts and Recovery Space (STARS) to deliver a diverse and engaging free program between 1 and 11 April that supports these pillars.

Southern Downs Councillor Cynthia McDonald said the 2022 line-up of activities was progressive and relevant to the region’s youth given recent challenging times.

“There is no question that our region’s youth have demonstrated resilience, strength and character having faced more challenges in their short years than their parents could ever have imagined,” Councillor McDonald said.

“A decade ago, a bottle-neck of drought, bushfire, flood and global pandemic was not in the script, yet our youth have soldiered on in a way we can be proud of.

“This year’s Youth Week on the Southern Downs celebrates our younger generation’s character and supports their ongoing journey as they navigate their way forward into adulthood.

“Council has closely collaborated with respected local youth service providers headspace, GBNC and STARS to offer one of the strongest Youth Week calendars.”

In addition to the scheduled events, Council will also give away 10 x one month free starter Taekwondo packages in both Stanthorpe and Warwick, which includes training fees, uniforms and first grading.
