Community invited to design the Stanthorpe 150th Anniversary Celebration logo

13 May 2021

Preparations for Stanthorpe’s 150th anniversary (S150) celebrations in 2022 are gaining momentum with the launch of a competition for a commemorative logo.

To promote the upcoming S150 celebrations, both amateur and professional artists of all ages from across Southern Downs are invited to submit a competition entry.

Southern Downs Councillor and Chair of the S150 Committee, Stephen Tancred is hopeful that the winning entry will come from within the Granite Belt community.

“I am excited to see what the creative residents of the Granite Belt will conjure up.  After all, our people represent the heart and soul of our community and I know how passionate Granite Belt residents are about their history and how it continues to guide the town’s future,” Councillor Tancred said.

“There is so much creative talent in the region and the S150 Committee hopes to harness local art power to create a logo that will inspire and direct our collective hearts and minds on celebrating the 150th anniversary of Stanthorpe.”

S150 will be a kaleidoscope of events celebrating the origins the town from the humble establishment of tin mining in the region to the robust wine, fruit and vegetable industries we see today.  The S150 will not only celebrate valuable industries like tourism, but also reflect on challenges such as floods and fires that have shaped the community’s resilience over the past 150 years.

Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi encourages artists to keep in mind that Southern Downs is such a great place to call home and we should never forget our rich history of the past 150 years.

“The call for a community driven logo is a significant step in the S150 planning process and I look forward to seeing entries that not only honour the 150th celebrations, but also echo the fact that the Southern Downs is a great place to live work play and stay,” Mayor Pennisi said.

Entries close on Thursday 3 June 2021 and will be judged by the S150 Committee with the winner of the competition walking away with bragging rights and $150 in ‘Why leave town’ shopping vouchers to spend in the heart of Stanthorpe.

Winning entries should be made available in a number of file types for both offline and online use and suitable for all forms of media use.
