Invasive Pests Strategic Plan 2021 - 2024

A statutory requirement of the Biosecurity Act 2014

This strategic plan has been prepared by Southern Downs Regional Council (SDRC) as a statutory requirement of the Biosecurity Act 2014, also having regard to the Local Government Act 2009.

Council is looking forward to collaborating with stakeholder organisations and land managers across the region to manage invasive pests.  Implementation of the Plan will be guided by key strategies. Actions will reflect the limited funding available to Council, their other core business priorities as well as external funding opportunities.

Purpose

An invasive pest is a weed or feral animal that imposes negative impacts on the economic, social amenity, human health or environmental values of our region. The purpose of this plan is to ensure invasive pests are managed effectively to minimise their impacts in the Southern Downs Regional Council area.

Vision

A resilient, sustainable and productive environment for our region.

Goals

  • Educate and engage our community
  • Assess the risk of invasive pest plants and animals occurring and spreading in our region
  • Implementing effective control strategies
  • Secure resources
