Indigenous music, culture and community spirit will take centre stage in Warwick as NAIDOC Week 2026 celebrates 50 Years of Deadly, marking a significant milestone in the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has amplified the voices of First Nations communities to celebrate culture, honour resilience and recognise the strength of Indigenous identity that continues to shape the nation.

Southern Downs Regional Council and Darling Downs Health are inviting the community to come together for a free, family-friendly BBQ on Friday 17 July, offering an opportunity for storytelling, connection and shared experience.

Mayor Melissa Hamilton said the free event at Victoria Park will be an inclusive celebration grounded in culture, respect and community pride.

“NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate what it means to be deadly—strong in culture, proud in identity and connected to community,” Mayor Hamilton said.

“50 Years of Deadly honours the generations who have paved the way while also celebrating the future being shaped by our communities today.

“We invite everyone to come together to share stories, learn from one another and celebrate the valuable contributions First Nations peoples have made, and continue to make, to our community and culture.”
