Southern Downs Libraries have introduced automatic renewals for a maximum of three additional loan periods to make it easier and more convenient for members to renew items.

On the day prior to the due date, items will automatically roll over for another loan period if they are not already reserved, haven’t been renewed three times, and are not interlibrary or LOTE (Languages Other Than English) loan items.

Council’s Director Customer & Organisational Services Leon Love said the enhanced service formed part of a future-focused strategy to meet the changing needs of the community.

“We continue to undertake a comprehensive assessment through our A library for all seasons: Creating an agile future for Southern Downs Regional Libraries strategy to proactively review and understand how library services are better delivered to serve our enthusiastic library community,” Mr Love said.

“Council understands that our libraries are valued cultural hubs which unify our communities and provide engaging and diverse recreational learning spaces for everyone to enjoy.

“The enhanced renewal system is a progressive and innovative step forward to ensure fair and inclusive access for all our library users.”

At a glance:
• All library members have been automatically enrolled in the renewal service.
• Library staff will send members an email five days before the due date to advise what item/s are due before the renewal date.
• Library members will receive an email notification when an item has been automatically renewed.
• No notification will be emailed if an item isn’t available for automatic renewal and the item will need to be returned.
• All library members can check their accounts and update their details online via the library catalogue at https://southerndowns.spydus.com/.
• All library members can call or visit any of Council’s libraries to discuss their loan.

Southern Downs Libraries recently undertook a community satisfaction survey in August to gain community input towards service evaluation.

Public libraries are a partnership between Local Government and the Queensland Government through State Library of Queensland.
