For more than 65 years, Neville Bryant has been rolling up his sleeves to serve the local community, and Southern Downs Regional Council is pleased to celebrate his lifetime commitment through its Volunteer Recognition Program.

Neville began his enduring journey with the Stanthorpe Agricultural Society in the 1950’s, and his long-standing dedication has been acknowledged on a number of occasions, first in 1988 when he became a life member and again in 2014 when he was bestowed the honour as a patron.

Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi said Neville’s service to the Society and broader community was unquestionably worthy of recognition.

“Our community has a proud tradition of volunteering and it is an honour to recognise Neville for the many volunteer endeavours he has embraced during his lifetime,” Mayor Pennisi said.

“He has been a driving force behind the Stanthorpe Agricultural Society for decades and he has steered the Society through good times and dry times.

“Neville’s association with the Society also saw him gravitate to positions with the Stanthorpe Polocrosse Club, Stanthorpe Jockey Club and Riding for the Disabled.

“Notably, he has a distinguished 50-year career as a volunteer with the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival and he is still an active volunteer at our very own Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre after more than 27 years.

“He was honoured as a life member of the Stanthorpe Agricultural Society in 1988 and given his continued support some 35 years later, he should probably be awarded a second life membership!

“Neville epitomises everything that a volunteer stands for – someone who goes above and beyond for the greater good of the community with no expectations of accolades, just an unwavering commitment to do right.

“Volunteers are the engine room of our community and it is an honour and privilege to recognise Neville for his outstanding dedication.”

Neville has also played an active role at Stanthorpe High School as a mentor to young people.
