At Council’s Ordinary Meeting on 9 June 2021 it was resolved to accept a confidential settlement agreement reached between Council and property developers Ties Group Pty Ltd and UKL Pty Ltd in relation to unpaid rates and charges relating to properties within the Aleva Estate located in Warwick.
Council officers have been communicating with the developers of the estate for a number of years in relation to items associated with the construction of the development and outstanding rates and charges and Wednesday’s resolution finally brings this matter to a close.
Southern Downs Regional Council CEO Dave Burges is pleased that an agreement could be reached and says the flow on effects will be positive for the local construction and housing industries.
“I am pleased that Council was able to come to an agreement with the developer on the outstanding rates and charges and development issues and that the land can now be brought to market without further uncertainty.
With nett migration to the regions the highest it has ever been and the Southern Downs being a very popular tree-change destination for a variety of age groups, Mr Burges is confident that the decision made is in the best interest of our community.
“Our region, like many others, is currently experiencing a housing shortage and having more land available that is ready for housing development is a bonus for the local economy no matter how you look at it” said the CEO.
