Local Stanthorpe singer and songwriter Jennie Wardle added another bow to her endless creative strings after she was announced this week as the winner of the S150 Anniversary Celebration Logo Competition.

Well known as one of the Nine Year Sister musical duo, Jennie’s winning entry captured Stanthorpe’s rich history and heritage with elements of the town’s industry and economy, and notably featured a piece of local stunning historical architecture – the iconic Stanthorpe Post Office.

Councillor and Chair of the S150 Celebration Advisory Committee, Stephen Tancred said Jennie’s entry perfectly depicted the essence of Stanthorpe’s the heart and soul.

“It is fantastic to honour a local and well-rounded artist with this award and Jennie’s very impressive and interpretative artwork will feature on all of the celebration’s marketing material,” Councillor Tancred said.

“Through many artistic avenues, Jennie continues to contribute to the celebrated cultural scene on the Granite Belt and it is an honour to acknowledge another aspect of her creative side as the winner of this competition.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers on the advisory committee.

“We are very fortunate to have assembled an amazing and creative collective of local minds who are passionate and dedicated to coordinating an exciting year of events that will proudly showcase the history and future direction of Stanthorpe.”

After recently being presented with her fitting prize of $150 “Why leave town” voucher by Councillor Tancred, Jennie humbly described herself as a semi-professional amateur artist who occasionally sells art online.

In accepting the prize, Jennie said: “I am very excited to be able to contribute to Stanthorpe’s 150 celebrations in 2022.”

Jennie’s award winning logo will be available from the Council’s media department.
