Regional event organisers to learn from industry gurus

27 October 2020

In a year that has seen local events face postponement and uncertainty, Southern Downs Regional Council has pulled together an impressive line-up of industry experts to guide the region’s event organisers into the future.

The 2020 Southern Downs Events Bootcamp will be held at Kings Theatre at the Warwick RSL on Tuesday 17 November. The event is free and all regional event organisers, their teams and volunteers are urged to attend.

Councillor Marco Gliori said the bootcamp was a great and timely opportunity for local event organisers to learn from some of the best in the business as COVID-19 social restrictions ease.

“This event promises to have a great line-up of experts who will offer tangible and helpful information,” Councillor Gliori said.

“Our event organisers should make the most of this bootcamp to garner really useful knowledge that will help local events moving forward.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to hear from some of the great minds in the field and renew enthusiasm for events in the region.”

Presenting on the day will be events guru Krista Hauritz, who will discuss social media, succession planning, volunteers and challenges facing regional events.

Representatives from the region’s five major events will also have a chance to have a say on a range of topics and answer questions. Coming to Warwick to appear at the event are Kate Scott from Carnival of Flowers, Scott McDuff from Scenic Rim Eat Local Week, David Contarini from RACQ, Southern Queensland Country Tourism CEO Peter Homan as well as delegates from Tourism and Events Queensland.

Attendees will also be keen to hear newly appointed Tourism Recovery Officer Terese Finegan highlight objectives and FAQs for the new Local Events Funding Program.

With so much uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 Safe events and how to run them, several speakers will present on the future of events, how to pivot events to make them COVID-19 Safe and how to get COVID-19 Safe event plans and checklists together.

The bootcamp will run from 9am to 4pm and light refreshments will be provided. To book your team a spot, head to www.warwicktickets.com.au.
