Washpool Reserve and Connolly Dam: Council closes camp sites

25 March 2020

Southern Downs Regional Council today made the decision to temporarily close the Washpool Reserve and Connolly Dam camp sites from Thursday 26 March 2020 as it works to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Recreational fishing that does not include camping is still permitted at the sites and Australian social distancing protocols will apply when fishing from a boat, i.e. a four square metres space per person must be observed.

The Government recommends against all non-essential travel in Australia. Essential travel will include travel that facilitates essential work-related activities and some travel on compassionate grounds.

A Council spokesperson said that while the closures of the camp sites would be disappointing for many camp-goers, public health and wellbeing was a priority for the community and nation in these unprecedented times.

The camp sites will remain closed until further notice.

Council will continue to follow best practice advice from Queensland Health and the State and Federal Governments regarding its actions relating to COVID-19 and make decisions that are in the best interest of the community and its staff.

Residents looking for further information can visit Council’s COVID-19 Portal, available on the front page of the Southern Downs Regional Council website.
