Warwick Saleyards Masterplan Released
16 July 2020
Southern Downs Regional Council has released the Warwick Saleyards Master Plan Report for public and media viewing.
This report was developed to deliver a strategic master plan for the facility, identify strategies for continuous operational improvement, and to seek to ensure that the Warwick Saleyards are operationally effective in decades to come.
The first 29 pages of the report are released to help residents and media understand the vision for this integral piece of infrastructure. While the remainder of the document cannot be released due to the confidential details contained; such as the business’ financial information, privacy of contractors, and other commercial-in-confidence issues, it is hoped that the release of the background, history and future plans will better foster a transparent understanding between Council, producers and industry.
Councillor for Agriculture, Corporate and Community Services Cynthia McDonald said that some of the mystery surrounding the future of the saleyards can be dispelled with the release of the report.
“Council wants producers, industry and the broader community to feel confident that we are investing in the future of the region” said Councillor McDonald.
“Agribusiness is a significant pillar of our community. In fact, it’s the largest employer in our region. Knowing and understanding the future plans for important local infrastructure for this industry means a lot to many residents”.
“Council is committed to transparent communication with the community however we are is legislatively bound to maintain the confidentiality of commercial-in-confidence information. We’ve released as much as we can and it gives a clear idea of the future direction.”
