Southern Downs Regional Council will continue to support initiatives that tackle youth mental health issues across the region and has renewed its ground-roots partnership with Borderline Australia.
Borderline Australia is a progressive, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to changing the lives of teenagers through mental health education and free youth camps on the Southern Downs.
Southern Downs Councillor Cynthia McDonald said Borderline’s camps extended a valuable and supportive lifeline to the younger generation amid challenging times.
“Council recognises the importance of young people to the future of the community and we are committed to addressing the needs of our youth through meaningful collaborations that build partnerships and support young people to have a voice,” Councillor McDonald said.
“Borderline champions youth wellbeing by providing a safe, inclusive and engagement environment for kids to feel heard and supported.
“Through our collaboration with Borderline last year, more than 100 teenagers from around Queensland, including 25 from the Southern Downs, benefited from the experience of attending the free camps.
“These camps change lives and are relevant, real and relatable for teenagers.
“I was fortunate to attend a camp’s graduation last year and saw first-hand the positive impacts of the mentoring on the kids.”
Young people ages 13-15 can apply to attend the camps which will be held at Cherrabah Resort, Elbow Valley with the first camp being ‘The Weekend’ held from 29 April – 1 May 2023. Attendees can expect and action packed weekend of special guests, activities, leadership & confidence skill and non-stop vibes prepping teenagers for life after school. Camps held during the week are open to ages 15-18.
