Asbestos & Lead

Handling & removing asbestos & lead materials safely

Asbestos

Asbestos Containing Materials, or ACM, were commonly used in the construction of both domestic and commercial buildings across Australia until the 1980s and even as late as the 1990s.  Many homes in the Southern Downs Region have a high probability of containing ACM due to their age.  Lack of awareness where asbestos may be located in your home, and improper handling can result in the release of asbestos fibres which can be inhaled and lodge in a person's airways or lungs. Over a long period of time, inhaled fibres can cause lung cancer or mesothelioma.

Lead

Did you know that exposure to lead from older homes and their gardens can pose a serious health risk to you and your family?

Lead can be found in many types of products used in an older home, including paints, old window sills and walls, in the garden around the house.

You should do your best to try and stay safe from lingering lead.
