What makes Southern Downs a great place to live, work, play and stay now and into the future?

Southern Downs Regional Council is opening the door for additional community representatives to join the Shaping Southern Downs Advisory Committee and provide input to Council on the strategic direction for the region.

Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi encourages interested community members to consider how they could contribute to the committee and play a role in steering the region’s future.

“Shaping Southern Downs is a strategic plan to identify and enhance the strengths and attributes of the region to create a bigger and better Southern Downs,” Mayor Pennisi said.

“We are keen to tap into those minds that have the expertise, experience and ideas to work productively with Council and our advisory committee.

“This is an excellent opportunity for community members to be involved in shaping the region’s future in a meaningful way by contributing their expertise and experience.”

The Shaping Southern Downs Advisory Committee is seeking:
• One additional community representative from a town or village that does not yet have an urban design framework (UDF). UDFs are currently in place for Dalveen, Leyburn, Maryvale, Pratten and Wallangarra, with Killarney under development.
• One representative for the following existing or developing UDFs:
o Pratten
o Wallangarra
o Killarney

Please refer to the terms of reference for the purpose, scope, membership and tenure of this committee. Council’s Advisory Committee Policy and Terms and Reference documents are available from Council’s website Council Advisory Committees - Southern Downs Regional Council (sdrc.qld.gov.au).

Expressions of Interest should contain an outline of skills and experience that address the duties outlined in the Terms of Reference and submissions close at 5pm on 28 October 2022.

The next Shaping Southern Downs Advisory Committee meeting will be held on 10 November 2022 in Stanthorpe.

Shaping Southern Downs sets a framework to encourage investment in the region and aims to grow the population to 50,000 residents. The region’s growth will support a wider range of businesses, industries and services in the area and provide a range of jobs for locals and support infrastructure improvements.
