If a ratepayer is suffering financial hardship, they may be eligible for rate relief.
Financial hardship exists when ratepayers are unable to meet basic requirements, including food, clothing, medicine, accommodation and children’s education. This hardship may occur as a result of illness, death of a partner or other sudden and unexpected circumstance.
This relief does not apply to ratepayers who:
- Do not reside within the Southern Downs Region
- Own commercial or industrial properties
- Own vacant land
- Own more than one property
- Own multiple dwellings
The approval of relief is granted by way of deferral of all interest charges and legal recovery from the date of application until 30 June of the current financial year.
Application is made by way of the completion and submission of a Hardship Application for Rates Deferral form (PDF 312.2KB).
