World Environment Day 2021

Photographic Competition

Opens: 5 June 2021              Closes: 30 June 2021

World Environment Day is held each year on the 5th June. This year’s theme is Ecosystem Restoration. This can take many forms such as enhancing habitat, growing trees, greening towns, rewilding gardens, or looking after our reserves, rivers and creeks.

To celebrate World Environment Day 2021, Council is calling for entries which showcase the natural beauty of the Southern Downs Region. This competition is seeking photographs that motivate, educate or move audiences to engage in valuing, protecting and enhancing ecosystems in our local environment. Images can be a landscape with or without wildlife or people, or could contain pictures of wildlife, clean energy alternatives, environmental recreation or interactions between humans and urban or natural landscapes.

Caring for our environment is everyone's responsibility. Council is committed to delivering a sustainable future which includes maintaining a healthy environment for people to live, work, play and stay.  Council is currently developing the Southern Downs Environmental Sustainability Strategy which will clarify Council’s commitment to sustainability, reflecting community and Council aspirations for sustaining our quality of life, while identifying actions to value our water, our nature, reducing our footprint and building economic resilience.
