Region to be showcased as flavour destination at iconic Regional Flavours

Friday 12 July 2019

Southern Downs and Granite Belt wineries and food producers will showcase the region as a flavour destination to more than 80,000 people at the annual Regional Flavours, Australia’s largest free food and wine event held in Brisbane’s South Bank Parklands from 20-21 July 2019.

Southern Downs Regional Council is proud to be a regional partner of the event this year, and will be promoting the local region with a destination marketing stall, as well as supporting the ten wineries and four food producers from the Southern Downs and Granite Belt who are attending.

SDRC has secured renowned celebrity foodie Magdalena Roze to create a locally inspired dish featuring Stanthorpe Cheese at the Queensland Taste stage on Sunday 21 July between 1.15pm and 1.45pm. In her “Everybody Say Cheese” demonstration, Magdalena will be joined onstage by food and wine expert Drew Simpson from Stanthorpe’s Queensland College of Wine Tourism who will pair the dish with local wines.

Councillor for Economic Development, Regional Promotion and Tourism Rod Kelly said he was excited to attend Regional Flavours and is proud of the region’s wine and produce offerings.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Brisbane Marketing on this key event, which will see the Southern Downs and Granite Belt region with one of the largest representations of producers at Regional Flavours,” said Cr Kelly.

“We all know the Southern Downs and Granite Belt is Queensland’s premier wine region and is home to a sensational abundance of produce, so it’s great we can show this off to food and wine lovers in Brisbane.

“Ultimately, this event is about raising awareness of our region in one of our key markets, as well as driving sales and attracting new customers for the participating businesses.

“Our attendance at Regional Flavours builds on the work our Economic Development and Tourism Department delivers through destination marketing, visitor information centre operations and business support.

“If you are going to Regional Flavours this year, I would encourage you to visit the Southern Downs and Granite Belt stall attended by staff from the Economic Development and Tourism Team and support the stalls attended by our wineries and food producers.”
