SDRC to welcome Commonwealth Games team at Mayoral Leadership Breakfast

What does it take to prepare a nation for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games?

Southern Downs residents are set to find out when Southern Downs Regional Council welcomes Team Cameroon’s Chef de Mission, Victor Agbor Nso, to its next Mayoral Leadership Breakfast on Thursday, 22 March.

Mr Agbor Nso will share his insights into what it takes to lead a nation into a major international sporting event and discuss the business and sporting opportunities available in the African nation.

Council will host Team Cameroon’s 67 athletes in the lead up to next month’s Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay batonbearer and Warwick local, Linda Bunch will also share what it means to take part in what will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when she carries the baton in Warwick on 29 March. 

Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Tracy Dobie said the Mayoral Leadership Breakfast was a wonderful opportunity to officially welcome the Cameroonians to the region.

“Warwick is the only regional town in Australia to be hosting a pre-Games training camp for a full Commonwealth Games team,” Cr Dobie said.

“It’s a significant achievement and very exciting for our region.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting Team Cameroon and I’m honoured Victor will be sharing his unique insights of the Games, his athletes and his nation with us.

“The event provides a great opportunity for our business and sporting community to be a part of the excitement in the lead up to the Games.”

The Mayoral Leadership Breakfast will be held at Kings Theatre at Warwick RSL on Thursday, 22 March from 7am until 8.30am.

 SDRC’S Mayoral Leadership Breakfast was to be held on Friday, March 16, but was moved back due to a change in Team Cameroon’s flights schedule.

The rescheduling provides the opportunity for additional members of Team Cameroon’s management team to be on hand for the event.
