Feasibility study to explore future opportunities for Stanthorpe Library
Southern Downs Regional Council is currently undertaking a
feasibility study to evaluate the use of facilities in the Stanthorpe civic
precinct to best meet the needs of the community. Stanthorpe Regional Art
Gallery has provided Council with its five year plan, which indicates its
intention to expand and outlines the need for additional space to continue to
host first-class exhibitions and to display its collection.
Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery is highly regarded and an
important cultural asset for the region. The expansion and upgrade of the
gallery ensures its longevity for future generations and means an enhanced
exhibition space for local artists, more quality exhibitions of both local and national
significance, increased visitation to the region and more tourism.
Stanthorpe Library is a valued community asset and the
feasibility study is a starting point to explore opportunities for its
expansion and possible relocation. Once
the study is completed and presented to the community, SDRC will work in
partnership with the community which will be encouraged to consult with Council
to provide feedback and offer new ideas, and present options not yet
The feasibility study will support future applications for
State and Federal Government funding, once the feasibility study has gone
through community consultation and been adopted by Council. No decision has yet
been made regarding Stanthorpe Library and any future decisions will be
informed by consultation with the community.
The feasibility study will also take into consideration
feedback received from the Stanthorpe community regarding backpackers causing
congestion around in and around the library on order to access free Wi-Fi facilities.
