‘Get Ready’ for GEOSTORM with SDRC

Extreme weather alert! ‘GEOSTORM’ is set to premiere on October 19 at the Warwick Twin Cinema and Southern Downs Regional Council is inviting you to ‘Get Ready’!

When the network of satellites designed to control the global climate start to attack Earth, it's a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide ‘geostorm’ wipes out everything and everyone.

Sounds dire, but fear not! You can find out how to prepare your [WHAT-IF-PLAN?] and be more prepared for extreme weather events and natural disasters as well as how to prepare an ‘Emergency Kit’ with Southern Downs Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, Tracy Dobie, and Local Disaster Coordinator, Peter See, at the Warwick Twin Cinema on October 19 at 6pm, prior to the screening of ‘GEOSTORM’ at 6:30pm.

Cr Dobie encouraged the public to come along to the ‘GEOSTORM’ screening.

“When it comes to extreme weather events in Queensland, it’s not so much a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’”, she said.

“With storm season now upon us, and also with the considerable fire risk facing our region at the moment, it’s really important that residents are prepared and ready, should the worst happen.

“While we’re certainly not expecting anything in the order of a ‘geostorm’ to happen, we are, unfortunately, getting our share of extreme weather events in our region.

“Some residents have got their ‘what-if-plans’ in place, but there are still many who could be more prepared. The better prepared we are, the more resilient we are in the face of disaster and the faster we’ll bounce back.

“This is a great opportunity to hear directly from our Local Disaster Coordinator Peter See about how we can all be better prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at us, and then I’m sure things won’t see anywhere near as foreboding when you watch the movie afterwards,” said Cr Dobie.

Three ‘Emergency Kits’ will be up for grabs by audience members in a lucky draw, and everyone in attendance will receive items to kick-start their own ‘Emergency Kits’ at home.
