DisABILITY Action Week 2017

DisABILITY Action Week will be celebrated in the Southern Downs from September 7 to 15 and focusses on celebrating the valuable contribution that people with a disABILITY make to the community.

This year’s program will kick-off with the DisABILITY Action Week Expo 2017 (PDF 402.8KB) on Thursday, September 7 at WIRAC, Cnr Palmerin & Albert Streets, Warwick, from 4pm – 7pm. This expo was inspired by the introduction of National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the resulting changes in service delivery. It was recognised that people with a disability and their families/carers needed a one stop shop opportunity to meet with the services and organisations that can offer support and service to them. The expo promises to be fun and interactive with some special fun activities to help stallholders and expo visitors engage with each other.

Council invites members of the community to support the event. Council invites you to register if you belong to a community group or organisation within the Southern Downs region that welcomes diversity and would like to welcome the inclusion of people with a disability.

Registration form for Stall holders (PDF 257.9KB).

The aims of the Expo are:

  • To provide an avenue for the Southern Downs community to showcase their services, recreational and cultural activities that will enhance the opportunities for people with a disABILITY
  • To celebrate the valuable contribution that people with a disABILITY make to our community
  • And provide an opportunity for all members of our community to learn more about the opportunities available through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The calendar of events and activities for DisABILITY Action Week is now available (see link below). Please contact the event organisers for details about how you can be involved.
