Online Resources

Southern Downs Regional Library Service has a wide range of free eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eLearning and eDatabases available online to all those with a membership card – anywhere, anytime.

To access these services, simply sign up with your library barcode, register your username and password and follow the prompts.  

You can then borrow and download to your compatible eReader, tablet, mobile phone, MP3 player or computer. Some resources also have free Apps available to download.

Please note: the ebooks and eAudiobooks provided by SDRC libraries are not compatible with a Kindle eReader. Currently there is NO Kindle eBook lending platform available to Australian public libraries. The Kindle is a proprietary product sold by Amazon and uses its own particular software. Amazon requires Australian Kindle users to purchase their books through the Amazon store.

eLearning - Unlimited access to courses in over 80 languages, including English for beginner and intermediate levels.

Universal Class

eLearning - Over 500 non-credit continuing education courses in a wide range of subject areas. Each course has a real instructor who you communicate with using email.


eLearning - Over 6000 technology training tutorials with step-by-step instructions guiding you through to an intermediate level of understanding. Please note that the Computer School requires different login details that are available from your library branch.

State Library QLD

eDatabases - A collection of subject specific databases with information from magazines, books, websites and other sources. Made available free to those with a Queensland Public Libraries account, courtesy of the State Library of Queensland.

Ancestry Library

eDatabases-Family history and genealogy resource. Onsite access only at Southern Downs library branches.

Project-GutembergProject Gutenberg (international) Project Gutenberg offers over 49,000 free ebooks: choose among free epub books, free kindle books, download them or read them online.

Project Gutenberg Australia All books are in the 'public domain' in Australia and all have been prepared by volunteers

Access to thousands of digital graphic novels and comics available for viewing on any internet-enabled device

TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you. TBL also includes National Geographic videos and games.
