Strategic Planning Workshop puts spotlight on local sport and recreation groups

The future of the region’s event, sport and recreation groups will be in the spotlight when Southern Downs Regional Council hosts its Strategic Planning Workshop in June.

Presented in collaboration with Sport and Recreation Services, South West Region, the FREE workshop will be facilitated by Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie and aims to upskill local groups using interactive templates, tips and guidelines to help prepare them with a ready-to-go document and strategic plan.

Southern Downs Councillor for Events, Sport and Recreation Yve Stocks, said Council was excited to be hosting the workshop in collaboration with Sport and Recreation Services.

“It is imperative all community groups have a strategic plan to accompany grant applications, to increase their chances of receiving funding,” Cr Stocks said.

“Participants will have the opportunity to work on their Strategic Plan and ask questions of the presenter Mr Michael Connelly from community engagement specialists, CPR Group.

“Mr Connelly is CPR Group’s Managing Director and is an inspirational community development specialist through his work with community, sport and recreation organisations at all levels in Australia, as well as local Councils, universities and state government.

“Council is encouraging all event, sport and recreation groups to come along and play an active part in this workshop for the future progress and success of their groups.”
