New playground equipment for Wallangarra's Boston Park

Wallangarra’s Boston Park has been transformed into a hive of kid’s fun and activity with the installation of new and contemporary playground equipment.

Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie, Councillors and community members will come together on Thursday, April 19, to formally open the $150,000 playground, funded by Southern Downs Regional Council.

Locals and visitors alike are set to enjoy the multi-level playground which includes swing sets, climbing nets and a suspension bridge.

An electric barbecue, picnic tables and new bench seating will be installed before the end of the financial year.

The new playground was initiated at the Half Yearly Budget Review in January after Council received feedback from the Wallangarra community regarding the desire for a new playground.

Cr Dobie said the new facilities meant Boston Park was a wonderful community space for both Wallangarra locals and visitors to enjoy.

“The installation of new playground equipment is wonderful for Wallangarra’s children and families, increasing opportunities for recreation and enhancing our region’s open spaces,” Cr Dobie said.

“Boston Park is a space where both locals and visitors can enjoy a picnic or barbecue with family or friends and new playground equipment gives kids every reason to be active, imaginative and enjoy being outdoors.

“We listened to what the Wallangarra community said they needed to improve local facilities and Council is proud to deliver such a positive community project.”

Cr Dobie will formally open the new playground equipment at Boston Park, Merinda Street on Thursday, 19 April at 4.30pm. The opening will coincide with a community meeting to be held from 5.30pm – 7:00pm at Wallangarra Hall to discuss SDRC’S Draft 2018/2019 Budget.
