Held on Tuesday 18 July from 11am – 3:00pm at the Stanthorpe Civic Centre, the aim of this free forum is to encourage tourism operators to work collaboratively with Council to achieve a shared and positive vision for the future of tourism on the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.
The forum will cover themes for future marketing campaigns, strategies to improve the visitor experience and the business assistance the industry needs from Council’s Economic Development Unit.
The Southern Downs and Granite Belt Visitor Guide and new website have now been developed, and Council is ready to launch targeted marketing campaigns with the objective to:
- Inspire consumers to want to visit Southern Downs
- Move consumers from awareness to consideration of planning a Southern Downs visit
- Complement TEQ and SQCT cooperative marketing programs
- Increase the number of visitors into our regional area
- Generate increase in visitor spend and yield ensuring growth in tourism and related businesses and retention of jobs in the sector
Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Tracy Dobie said Council realises the importance of developing the capacities of local owners and operators involved in tourism and promoting strong positive relations and networking amongst the sector.
“Council will investigate ideas and concepts arising from the Forum and will assist businesses to develop and expand through tailored education and increase tourism potential by identifying training wants and needs,” Cr Dobie said.
“Tourism providers are truly passionate about their industry and this Forum aims to ensure a collaborative approach at a grassroots level is undertaken for the future direction of tourism in the region.”
