Women in Print at SDRC’s Libraries
Book buffs are set to be treated to a unique author visit event, with not one, not two, but three authors combining to present their new biographical releases next week in Stanthorpe and Warwick.
Southern Downs Regional Council Libraries are pleased to present ‘Women in Print’ with authors Jenny Old, Marisa Parker and Livia York who have each written about their personal and family journeys that have taken them from places as far-flung as Italy, Africa and the vast outback to becoming published authors.
In their own distinct style, each has chronicled the trouble and pain of confronting natural disaster, war, abuse and the immigrant experience, and the joy of survival and triumph against the odds.
“‘McAllister’ is the story of Jenny Old’s amazing life in the Outback, and it is sure to captivate and enthral, so don’t miss this opportunity to hear firsthand from Jenny” said Warwick Librarian, Ms Marianne Potter.
Stanthorpe Librarian Christine Taylor said Marisa Parker’s book ‘Goodbye to Italia’ should pique the interest of locals, particularly with the rich Italian history and culture of Stanthorpe and the Granite Belt.
“Marisa’s book is a romantic story of Italian drama, courage and humour and recounts the story of her parents and their experiences during World War II in Italy and Africa,” said Ms Taylor.
Ms Taylor added that author Livia York, also has Italian roots, born in Rome, Italy in 1942 and moving to Australia in 1958.
“Livia York’s book ‘RISE: The Abused Child of the Phoenix’ is her achingly true, but inspirational, story about a girl who rose from the ashes, much like the fabled phoenix bird, and was awarded the Readers Favourite Five Stars, within six months of publication in 2015,” she said.
Council invites you to join these three inspirational women as they visit the Southern Downs region on Thursday, March 23 for sessions at 10:30am at the Stanthorpe Library followed by 2:00pm at the Warwick Library. Light refreshments will be provided.
To reserve your place for these free events please RSVP by Wednesday, March 22 to the Stanthorpe Library on 4681 2141 or the Warwick Library on 4661 0342.
